Abstract

Thermally sprayed coatings are now used in many sectors of industry. In order to select the right material for a given application, it is necessary to know in detail the key properties of the coatings under consideration. Mechanical wear resistance is one of the most important and frequently sought properties. The aim of this work is to compare the properties of HVOF and Cold Sprayed coatings based on iron alloy (FeCrAlY), on tungsten carbide (WC-CoCr), on chromium carbide (Cr3C2-NiCr) and on Ni alloy (NiCr). The structure of coatings and their resistance to erosive wear by solid particles are analyzed and discussed. The microstructures of Cold sprayed coatings show better properties than HVOF sprayed coatings, especially in terms of porosity, oxides content and coatings homogeneity.
