The paper presents the results of investigation into the effect of structure banding on the mechanical and technological properties of finished wire rod. It describes also the causes of the formation of banding and the possibility of reducing it by changing the thermoplastic working parameters. Tests were carried out for a low-carbon ferritic-pearlitic steel intended for further cold plastic working. The test results have shown that the occurring banding adversely affects the mechanical and technological properties of the steel grade under study. Within the study, the rolling end temperature and cooling rate that reduce the banding and improve the finished product properties have been determined. Keywords: Microstructure banding, mechanical properties, technological properties, cold upsetting steel, wire rod thermoplastic working
